The IMPACT Macedonia Project was launched in November 2004. The project aims at improving productivity and accountability in the public sector. The project will be working with the Ministry of Finance and many other sectors involved with e-Government in Macedonia.

DOT-COM / GKD Online discussion : Technology, Globalization and the Poor- October 25 - November 19th.
There will be a virtual conference in association with the "Eradicating Poverty through Profit" conference in San Francisco. The face-to-face conference is organized by the World Resource Institute's Digital Dividend project. The Tech Museum of Innovation Awards
Andy Lieberman was honored, and selected by The Tech Museum of Innovation as one of 25 Laureates for the prestigious awards program, which celebrates those who leverage new and existing technologies to benefit humanity and which uses technology to address the " myriad of challenges we face as a global community". He was chosen from some 320 applications from 80 countries for his work on the Enlace Quiché project now transformed into a Guatemalan NGO. UPDATE: Andy won one of the five final awards on November 10th, 2004, the "Microsoft Education Award." Here is an extract from a Press Release:
"Enlace Quiché was launched in 2000 by the Academy for Educational Development and USAID to demonstrate uses of information and communications technologies to strengthen the training of bilingual (Spanish-Mayan) teachers. Microsoft became an active supporter in 2002. The theme throughout has been helping Mayan communities and schools to cross hte digital divide without leaving their culture and language behind. Now functioning as an independent Guatemalan NGO, Enlace's legacy includes 28 school-based technology centers, 14 interactive Mayan-language CD-ROMs, a virtual community, and a training center. Through these efforts, a rapidly growing critical mass of empowered Mayans are harnessing computer and Internet as tools for development and for strengthening their identity."

"Debut of the Year" Award for e-Government pilot project in Romania

On September 17-19, 2004, ANIAP organized the annual conference dedicated to solutions for e-administration. This year the event focused on the Interoperability of the Informatics Systems. At this conference, the Giurgiu e-Government pilot project received an award called "The Debut of the Year" for the implementation of the Integrated Solution containing Document Management and Tax Automation Systems. |
