Traceability is an essential element of the MAC Certification program. The Traceability IT system has a "triple bottom line" orientation in that it addresses commercial, conservationist and social objectives. The system helps to make transactional and business processes more efficient, can reduce various stresses on coral reefs, and promotes digital inclusion of remote coastal communities. The Traceability IT system has applications in industries where there is a need to track movements and transactions of products, whether commodities such as timber or coffee, or live animals such as fish or birdlife.
The final report from MAC details how the Traceability IT system was piloted in the Philippines and lessons learned from that project. ">
File Name:Identify_Preservation_and_Traceability_FINAL_REPORT3.pdf Size: 1652 Kb Adobe Acrobat PDF Description:A unique USAID-funded public-private partnership involving the Marine Aquarium Council (MAC), AED, Microsoft and other organizations has produced the "Traceability IT System". The system is a pilot scale, integrated, real-time, web-based product that permits tracking of marine aquarium organisms through a complicated global trade chain, "from reef to retail...." (www.aquariumcouncil.org). In other words, a marine aquarium organism can be tracked from its point of collection to the exporter and then on to the importer and retailer overseas.
