The Uganda Village Phone project is celebrating a milestone with the establishment of its 1000th Village Phone Operator. The lucky 1000th operator is Mrs. Topista Maidho.

Topista Maidho, a mother of seven children, lives in the village of Busulumba, in the south-eastern part of Uganda. Her husband is a farmer and she operates a drug store where her new Village Phone is now located. She became interested in the Village Phone as a side business to complement her other income when her eldest son mentioned having seen a Village Phone in a neighboring village.
