Women in Technology Cisco Scholarship Program Proving Popular
|

|
With several weeks remaining until the deadline, more than 2000 women from Asia and North Africa have initiated or submitted applications for the Women in Technology (WIT) Scholarship Program. These women are competing for an estimated 450 spaces in the Cisco Networking Academy.
The program has also received numerous inquiries from countries not currently targeted by the program including: Cameroon, Kenya, Mauritius, Nigeria, Somalia, South Africa, Uganda, India, Iran, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea and Tonga. Many women from rural areas and cities in target countries where Academies have not yet been established have inquired about training through the program.
The WIT Scholarship Program provides scholarships to women from seven target countries to attend the Cisco Networking Academy, earning them a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certificate. The program awards tuition scholarships to women in Asia (Bangladesh, Mongolia, Nepal and Sri Lanka) and North Africa (Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia) to attend Cisco Networking Academies.
A bilingual (English and French) website has been established for women to learn more about the program and obtain application forms: http://www.iie.org/wcoast/wit.html
The WIT program, sponsored by USAID and administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE) through a grant from the dot-GOV Program of Internews Network, was launched in July 2003. IIE and Internews are promoting the opportunity extensively through NGOs, academic institutions, government agencies, current and past program participants, overseas offices and program contacts worldwide.
dot-GOV's work with CISCO is funded by USAID/EGAT/EIT (under the dot-GOV Leader Award No. GDG-A-00-01-00009-00). GDG-A-00-01-00009-00.
