Did you know that turning on a TV set demands two or three times more power than is used during normal operation?

Conventional television sets are built on the same CRT technology as standard computer monitors and are by far the least expensive.. Of the main TV display technologies, LCD televisions usually consume the least energy for a given size, followed by RCT tub displays, flat-screent CRTs, plasma televisions, and LCD rear projection displays.

Many portable radios, the WorldSpace satellite radio receiver (pictured above) and tape recorders are designed to operate with both CD and AC, using small batteries. The cost of replacing these batteries is high. Hand-crank radios solve that problem.
